Q & A: ETR Chats with Missi Holt

q & a

Early to Rise Fitness & Nutrition expert Missi Holt shares her insights on health and wellness with our readers daily. But today, we’re changing things up and putting Missi on the spot to ask her some of the questions those of us here in the Denver ETR office — and likely, many readers — are most curious about.

ETR: We all love to watch you work out and practice yoga. What is your favorite workout move and favorite yoga pose?

Missi: That’s a tough one. It’s changed throughout the years. When I power-lifted, it was definitely hang cleans. Right now it’s a tie between pullups and a combo single-leg Russian deadlift into a single-arm snatch and reverse lunge. I love complex movement patterns that challenge multiple systems including balance, stability, mobility, and timing.

My favorite yoga pose is definitely Wild Thing. It’s not difficult, but it feels so good emotionally and it allows great expression of heart.

ETR: You inspire others. Who inspires you?

Missi: Ordinary people who do extraordinary things every day, like smiling at strangers, holding the door open for others, offering to pay for a person’s coffee behind them in line, or waving someone into their lane in traffic. The little ways other people show kindness, compassion, generosity, connectivity, and grace for others are what inspires me to show up in similar ways every day. You never know how the simple act of looking someone in the eye and offering a genuine smile might transform their day.

My favorite mantra lately is, “Like ripples.” I created it to remind myself that how I show up in every moment really matters.

Missi ETR: What do you most want to do for your audience?

Missi: To teach and empower them to become the expert of their own lives. To show them how to heal their relationship with themselves so that they can heal their relationships with food, exercise, rest, play, and with others. I want them to know exactly how to navigate the various opportunities that offer growth, refinement, and connection each and every day.

ETR: What’s your favorite childhood memory that’s made an impact on your life?

Missi: You know when you look at someone and they completely understand what you are thinking, just from that look? I remember the first my brother and I shared a moment like that — and all of those moments I’ve had with him since. Total understanding with no verbal communication is such an amazing thing.

ETR: What is one word you would use to describe yourself?

Missi: Goofy, compassionate, trusting… oops that’s three! Maybe the one word should be verbose! Ha!

ETR: What’s something about Missi that not even your most loyal readers and clients know?

Missi: I’m more sensitive than I might seem. I have old wounds that can be triggered by the people closest to me. I regularly work on rising above the smallness of the past.

ETR: You constantly empower your readers to move through their fears. What is your biggest fear?

Missi: That I’m not worth the effort. I am, and always will be, a work in progress. When I feel the wound of unworthiness crack open, I must choose to show up for myself in a way that allows me to rise above the smallness. I must choose to place loving hands on my heart and soften the pain. I must choose to believe that I am worth the effort. We all are.
