Take This Success Quiz For Your Life
Imagine taking every Friday off.
How great would that feel?
How much more time would you have for what really matters in your life? How many more memories with your children, your partner, and your friends could you create? How many more books could you read? How many more books could you write?
There are an endless number of things that you could do if you had Fridays off every week. Of course, you’re probably coming up with excuses about why it won’t work for you.
You have a boss. You’re too busy already. You can’t afford to take a day off.
Think you have too many obstacles in your life? Think that “your situation” is different? Everyone does.
That’s why I want you to meet Blair Cornell, my coaching client who runs a financial advisory firm in Ohio. He’s the father of four children under the age of 10. Blair manages a team of 15 at work, serves hundreds of clients, manages tens of millions of dollars, and is starting a charity.
Do you know what else Blair does? He takes every Friday off to spend with his wife.
How does Blair do this?
He uses the systems I created for him. He’s taken my advice, put his head down, focused on what matters, dominated his days, and built the structure he needed to achieve true freedom in his life.
“Craig, thank you for all that you’ve helped me with,” Blair said after another long weekend. “I completed my vision, my rules and my specific goals for both my personal and professional life, and I carry these with me everywhere. In addition, I have stayed disciplined to my schedule, morning routine, exercise, and enjoying each perfect day God has blessed me with. You’re an inspiration and I hope I can pay this message forward to many others, so they too can get up each day and look forward to life!”
You’re probably wondering how I helped Blair do this. Let me show you. It starts with answering one question with conviction:
What will you never, ever do (again) in your life?
For example, you could say:
- Smoke a cigarette
- Eat at McDonald’s
- Hit the snooze button
- Pass gas in an elevator
- Give someone “the finger” when you’re driving
My answer is…
…“I’ll never clean a toilet.”
I never have, and never will.
In fact, if I was ‘forced’ to clean a toilet, and given three hours to do it, I’d spend the first two hours and fifty-five minutes convincing someone else to clean the toilet for me. Ultimately, I’d find a way to avoid it because I will never, ever, ever clean a toilet.
That’s the conviction you need to have in your answer.
Let me explain the point of this exercise.
We all do things we shouldn’t. For example…
- My CEO clients run inefficient meetings because of poor planning…
- My fitness entrepreneur clients “sub” in for trainers that call in sick…
- My online entrepreneur clients do hours of “tech stuff” they shouldn’t…
- My sales clients waste hours doing admin work and chasing down payments…
- My author clients check social media before they’ve written their daily quota…
You’re probably making one of these mistakes, too. But what if you said…
“I’ll never make that mistake again.”
And what if you TRULY meant it… with complete conviction, like you had in your answer to my first question above?
Five years ago I said, “I’m going to stop swearing,” with the same conviction that I use when stating that I’ll never clean a toilet. This mindset shift put the odd in my favor, and I’ve been able to stick to my no-swearing rule since.
The same change in your beliefs can have a huge impact on your life. Having complete conviction about what you will and will not do can help you overcome most obstacles, like wasting time online or giving-in to vices.
With this new belief system, you can…
- Stop wasting your team’s time when you should be leading
- Stop wasting time training clients when you should be acting like a gym owner
- Stop wasting time on tech problems when you should be getting stuff done
- Stop wasting time doing admin work when you should be selling
- Stop wasting time online when you should be writing
The politically incorrect truth is that you are a high performer and a superior being. In that, you are here to make an impact and a dent in the universe. You weren’t put here to do 10-dollar-an-hour tasks (like admin work). You need to make a big mindset shift from working “IN” your business to working “ON” your business and in your zone of genius so that you can make your mark and leave your legacy.
Once you understand this, you need to do one more exercise. I call it the Perfect House Management Audit, and it identifies several ways to free up your time.
Answer this…
a) Who is on your current house management team? (Housekeeper, nanny etc.)
b) Who would be on your Dream Team for house management if money were no object?
c) What would each new position cost?
d) What major problems would each new position solve and how many hours would that save you each week?
e) What dollar value do you put on your time? (How much are you worth per hour?)
f) What household chores are you doing on a daily/weekly basis?
g) What is your total time cost (Hours x Your Hourly Rate) of these chores? (I.e. How much money are you losing by doing this yourself?)
h) What are you really willing to spend to hire someone to do these tasks for you so you can focus on what matters? (And for your spouse/partner, if applicable?)
When you answer these questions, make sure you do so with complete conviction, like you did in the first exercise. If you do, you’ll have two “A-ha” moments.
First, you’ll realize it’s much cheaper to fix your problems than you thought.
Second, you’ll notice that your time is more valuable than you thought. That’s why you can’t waste time doing simple household chores. Think about all the opportunities you’re missing out on in your life because you won’t let go of doing the stuff that doesn’t matter. That’s why you must change.
With your eyes opened to these new possibilities, you’ll make more time for what matters, get more done, earn more money, and even be able to take Fridays off – just like Blair. Basically, your life will improve dramatically.
Let me know if I can help you overcome your obstacles and give your more focus and self-discipline in your life. That’s what I’m here for. It’s my life’s work to make you more effective, more structured, more focused, more successful, and on track to leaving your legacy.
