Delicious Done-for-You Memorial Day Menu: Kebabs, Slaw and Dessert!
On Memorial Day, we remember those who died while serving in the Armed Forces, and we offer our deepest gratitude to those currently serving.
One of the most impactful moments of my life was when my family visited Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.
Visiting Arlington is solemn and humbling. It’s also an occasion to pay tribute to those protecting us, as we go about our lives, often without thinking about what it takes to live freely.
This American holiday is a very special day for me — maybe because my grandfather was a World War II veteran and fought alongside the Americans to free the world from Nazi Germany. It also has special significance as I became an American citizen just 2 years ago — something I don’t take lightly.
Whatever your plans are for Memorial Day, they’ll likely involve gathering with family and friends. And they’ll probably also involve food.
Today I wanted to share three recipes, including a bonus video for my Red, White, and Blueberry dessert. You’ll have fun putting it all together and impress your friends and family as you gather for Memorial Day, and later this summer, July 4th celebrations. It’s also a great Veteran’s Day treat to pull out again in the fall.

My first recipe is Soy & Ginger Sirloin Kebabs. I have talked about marinating your meats before and in my Masterclass, and you’ll want to marinate the sirloin well for this recipe. Soy, ginger and extra-virgin olive oil always make a great, flavorful marinade, especially for beef.
Once the beef cubes have marinated, I skewer them and they’re ready to grill.
Before you start cooking the meat, make sure you preheat your grill, and control the heat (medium high) while cooking so that your meat has a chance to build a nice golden brown crust, but does not burn.
My next recipe is as healthy as it gets, and as traditional as it gets. It’s a healthy twist on coleslaw. I add a lot of black kale to boost your fiber and nutrient intake significantly, so that you can burn fat, even on holidays.
Make sure you thinly slice the kale for nice, pretty presentation in this dish.
Finally, my delicious Red, White & Blueberry Dessert, looks like this:
And because it’s so easy to make, I wanted to share with you this fun, bonus recipe so you can do it. Even better, if you have children, make this together. It’s a fun activity.
I hope you have a happy Memorial Day. Remember to take time to reflect on our armed forces that died for the country. Gather together with family and friends, and take good care of them, as well as your body.
More importantly, don’t take anything for granted.
